Local non-profit receives donation from Verizon Wireless

As part of its HopeLine program dedicated to supporting survivors of domestic violence and their families, Verizon Wireless recently awarded HAWC a $1,000 “Kids In Need” grant. Accepting the donation for HAWC is Anthony DiPietro, Executive Director and Maryanne Askwyth, Development Assistant. The funds will assist those served by HAWC to purchase gifts for their children this holiday season. For 20 years, HAWC has supported a “Holiday Store” for survivors who have experienced domestic violence. Through the support of the community, gift cards, jackets, gloves, hats and toys have reached thousands of families.

Verizon Wireless’ HopeLine program collects no-longer-used wireless phones, batteries and accessories, in any condition at Communications Stores nationwide. Proceeds from HopeLine are used to provide wireless phones and cash grants to local shelters and non-profit organizations that focus on domestic violence prevention and awareness. During the holiday season, HopeLine “Kids In Need” grants aim to make the holidays a little brighter for children of families served by domestic violence organizations across New England.
