Lady of Salem 2014 ~ Call for Sponsors and Artists

The Salem Beautification Committee (SBC) is holding an open call for sponsors and local artists who would like to participate in the 2014 Lady of Salem public art project. Sixteen, colorful figureheads have been a City highlight for the past two years. They celebrate Salem's maritime history and are on display along Essex Street and Derby Street from June through October. Most recently, the Ladies were featured in a Tour of Salem History as part of the Essex National Heritage Trails and Sails event held in September.

The SBC would like to add 5–10 more figureheads to its sisterhood and is reaching out to businesses and organizations to sponsor a "Lady." Sponsorship includes a primed, unpainted 33" figurehead molded of a hard, lightweight fibrous material, a decorative beveled backboard and an engraved sponsor artist plaque. Sponsors and artists will be represented in promotional materials and on the "Lady of Salem" web page (www.ladyofsalem.com). Sponsors can partner with an artist of their choosing to paint their figurehead, or the SBC can can arrange to have a local artist create a representative Lady (the artist would discuss creative themes and treatment before painting begins).

Artists and potential sponsors can learn more about the project and sponsorship options by contacting MaryEllen Halliwell at memhalliwell@yahoo.com.

The deadline for sponsorship submission is December 1, 2013.
