Coyote Spotted on Memorial Drive in Salem

The following is an excerpt from the Salem Police Department's log: 

Wednesday, Nov. 6:

  • At 4:02 p.m., police responded to a domestic dispute on Prince Street.
  • At 4:23 p.m., police responded to an assault on Highland Avenue.
  • At 4:50 p.m., police conducted a well-being check on Leavitt Street.
  • At 4:51 p.m., a woman called police to report that someone stole a purse out of her car while it was parked on Jefferson Avenue.
  • At 6:28 p.m., police responded to a domestic dispute on Gedney Court.
  • At 7:37 p.m., police responded to a disturbance on Lafayette Street.
  • At 7:50 p.m., police responded to a shoplifting incident on Highland Avenue.
  • At 9:41 p.m., police responded to a disturbance on Hazel Street.
  • At 9:59 p.m., a nurse at Salem Hospital called police to report finding a plastic bag with crack cocaine in it. The cocaine was retrieved and marked for destruction.
  • At 10:51 p.m., police responded to a report of a man trying car doors on Rawlins Street.
  • At 11:33 p.m., police conducted a well-being check near the intersection of New Derby and Washington streets. A woman was placed into protective custody.

Thursday, Nov. 7

  • At 2:43 a.m., police responded to a report of a suspicious motor vehicle near the intersection of Swampscott Road and First Street.
  • At 3:35 a.m., police responded to a domestic dispute on North Street. Richard R. Craig, 59, of 187A North St., Salem, was arrested on a charge of domestic assault and battery.
  • At 6:50 a.m., a crossing guard on Memorial Drive called police to report seeing a coyote in the area. Police were unable to locate a coyote in the area.
  • At 9:13 a.m., police made an arrest on Rainbow Terrace. Erick R. Perez, 32, of 7 Rainbow Terrace, Salem, was arrested for reportedly having an outstanding warrant.
  • At 10:05 a.m., an arrest was made at the Salem Police Department. 
  • At 10:50 a.m., police responded to an attempted break-in on Hibernia Avenue.
  • At 10:59 a.m., police responded to a mulch fire on Hazel Street.
  • At 1:12 p.m., police made an arrest on Cherry Street. Kelley E. Damon, 31, of 14 Cherry St., Salem, was arrested or reportedly having an outstanding warrant.
  • At 1:18 p.m., police responded to a shoplifting incident at The Witch Tees Shop at East India Square. Police were unable to locate the suspect.
  • At 2:27 p.m., police and fire units responded to an oven fire on Prince Street.
  • At 3:23 p.m., police conducted a well-being check on Washington Street.
