Salem School Committee Primary Election Forum Tonight

Here are the five things you need to know before you start your day in Salem.


Today is Tuesday, Sept. 10, and here are the five things you need to know: 

1. You'll want to be prepared for wet weather today. The National Weather Service is predicting that local residents can expect showers before 1 p.m. and a daily high near 77. Tonight should be mostly cloudy, with a low around 67. (sunrise, 6:18 a.m.; low tide, 9:03 a.m.; high tide, 3:16 p.m.; sunset, 7:01 p.m.)

. The Salem Education Foundation is hosting a Salem School Committee Candidate Primary Election Forum tonight at the Boys & Girls Club of Salem on Hawthorne Boulevard. The forum is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. and will be open to the public.

3. Salem High School's girls' varsity soccer team will hit the road this afternoon to take on Gloucester. The game is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m., so consider stopping by to cheer them on! 

4. Salem's Community Preservation Committee will meet this evening at the City Hall Annex on Washington Street. The meeting, scheduled to begin at 6 p.m., is expected to feature a discussion regarding a recent trolley tour of Salem Housing Authority properties, according to the posted agenda

5. Today in History: On Sept. 10, 1608, John Smith was elected council president of Jamestown, Va.
