Today is Wednesday, Oct. 9, and here are the five things you need to know:
1. It should be another pleasant fall day in Salem. The National Weather Service is predicting that local residents can expect it to be sunny, with a high near 58. Tonight should be mostly clear, with a low around 43. (sunrise, 6:49 a.m.; low tide, 8:41 a.m.; high tide, 2:54 p.m.; sunset, 6:10 p.m.)
2. At their meeting Thursday night, the City Council is slated to consider a motion regarding to the Peas for Fees program. The program means that upon payment of an unpaid parking fine and the donation of two non-perishable items or canned goods to a local food pantry the parking fine collector will waive from Dec. 1, 2013 to Dec. 24, 2013 up to $30 dollars in late fees for parking tickets.
