Salem Councillor-At-Large Candidates Forum Tuesday Night

Here are the five things you need to know before you start your day in Salem.


Today is Monday, Oct. 7, and here are the five things you need to know: 

1. You'll want to be prepared for wet weather today. The National Weather Service is predicting that local residents can expect scattered showers after 11 a.m. and a daily high near 71. There's a chance for a powerful thunderstorm tonight and the overnight low should be near 50. (sunrise, 6:47 a.m.; low tide, 7:07 a.m.; high tide, 1:19 p.m.; sunset, 6:14 p.m.)

2. There will be a Councillor-At-Large Candidates Forum Tuesday night at the Moose Hall on Grove Street in Salem. The forum is scheduled to run from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. and is sponsored by the Mack Park Neighborhood Association, Greater Endicott Neighborhood Association, Point Neighborhood Association, South Salem Neighborhood Association, Salem Common Neighborhood Association and the Gallows Hill Neighborhood Association. 4. The Salem School Committee will meet tonight at Collins Middle School. The meeting is scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m., according to the posted agenda

5. Today in History: On Oct. 7, 1777, American forces defeated the British in the Second Battle of Saratoga, also known as the Battle of Bemis Heights.
