Mayor's Night Out in Salem Tonight

Here are the five things you need to know before you start your day in Salem.


Today is Friday, Oct. 4, and here are the five things you need to know: 

1. It will feel a bit cooler out there today. The National Weather Service is predicting that local residents can expect it to be sunny, with a high near 71. Tonight should be mostly cloudy, with a low around 51. (sunrise, 6:43 a.m.; high tide, 11:28 a.m.; low tide, 5:47 p.m.; sunset, 6:18 p.m.) 

2. It's Mayor's Night Out in Salem tonight, which means Salem residents with photo ID can get into a host of local attractions completely free of charge. Click Here to see the list of participating businesses. You'll also have the chance to trick-or-treat with the mayor tonight, just meet up by the big fountain at the Museum Place Mall at 5:30 p.m. 

3. Salem High School's boys' varsity football team will host Winthrop tonight. The game is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m., so consider stopping by to cheer them on! Click Here for game details. 

4. Thousands of area residents made their way to downtown Salem Thursday night to take part in the Haunted Happenings Grand ParadeClick Here to view a short video we shot of the big celebration. 

5. Today in History: On Oct. 4, 1692, Massachusetts Governor William Phips sent a letter that ended the Salem Witch Trials.
