Gov. Patrick Stopping in Salem Wednesday Morning

Here are the five things you need to know before you start your day in Salem.


Today is Wednesday, Oct. 16, and here are the five things you need to know: 

1. You'll want to be prepared for some wet weather today. The National Weather Service is predicting that local residents can expect showers this afternoon and a daily high temperature near 62. Tonight should be mostly cloudy, with a low around 53. (sunrise, 6:57 a.m.; high tide, 9:43 a.m.; low tide, 3:40 p.m.; sunset, 5:59 p.m.) 

2. Gov. Deval Patrick will appear at the North Shore Chamber of Commerce's Special Leadership Breakfast this morning at the Hawthorne Hotel. The breakfast is scheduled to begin at 8 a.m. Check back with Salem Patch this afternoon for video footage from the event.

3. The Salem Historical Commission will meet tonight on the third floor of the City Hall Annex on Washington Street. The meeting, scheduled to begin at 7 p.m., is expected feature a discussion regarding several proposed building projects, according to the posted agenda

4. At their meeting Tuesday night, the Salem Licensing Board declined to renew the Store Fortunetelling License and two sub-licenses for Fatima's Psychic Studio on Hawthorne Boulevard after it was determined that there is an active police investigation into the studio. 5. Today in History: On Oct. 16, 1923, The Walt Disney Company was founded by Walt Disney and his brother, Roy Disney.
