Take Advantage of Fall Restaurant Week Deals Tonight

Here are the five things you need to know before you start your day in Salem.

Today is Wednesday, Nov. 7, and here are the five things you need to know:

1. You'll want to be prepared for some wet weather today. The National Weather Service is predicting that local residents can expect showers before 4 p.m. and a daily high near 61. Tonight should be mostly clear, with a low around 38. (sunrise, 6:24 a.m.; low tide, 7:23 a.m.; high tide, 1:36 p.m.; sunset, 4:28 p.m)

2. Tonight will be your last chance this week to take advantage of Salem's Fall Restaurant Week deals at city restaurants. For 10 days only, participating Salem restaurants will offer either a two-course prix-fixe dinner menu for $18, or a three-course prix-fixe dinner menu for $28, or both (note that this price does not include drinks, taxes or gratuities). The deals will continue from Sunday, Nov. 10 to Thursday, Nov. 14.

3. The 2013 Salem Winter Market kicks off this afternoon at Old Town Hall in Salem. The market will run from 3 to 6 p.m. and will feature produce from local farms, pasture-fed meat, spices, pickles, soup, baked goods, artisan soap, jewelry, wreaths, and more.

4. The Planning Board meeting scheduled to take place at the City Hall Annex on Washington Street tonight has been canceled. The conversation regarding the Community Preservation Act Plan will take place at the board's next meeting on Nov. 21, according to the posted agenda.

5. Today in History: On Nov. 7, 1944, Franklin D. Roosevelt was elected for a record fourth term as President of the United States.
