2013 Salem Winter Market Kicks Off Thursday

Here are the five things you need to know before you start your day in Salem.


Today is Wednesday, Nov. 6, and here are the five things you need to know: 

1. It will be another beautiful fall day in Salem. The National Weather Service is predicting that local residents can expect it to be sunny, with a high near 57. Tonight should be mostly cloudy, with a low around 51. (sunrise, 6:22 a.m.; high tide, 11:55 a.m.; sunset, 4:31 p.m.; low tide, 6:17 p.m.)

2. The 2013 Salem Winter Market kicks off tomorrow at Old Town Hall in Salem. The market will run from 3 to 6 p.m. and will feature produce from local farms, pasture-fed meat, spices, pickles, soup, baked goods, artisan soap, jewelry, wreaths, and more.

3. Are your kids getting ready for high school? There will be an open house at Salem High School tonight. The open house is scheduled to run from 6:30 to 8 p.m.

4. The Salem Historical Commission will meet tonight at the City Hall Annex on Washington Street. The meeting, scheduled to begin at 7 p.m., is expected to feature a discussion regarding the preservation of the McIntire Arch, according to the posted agenda.

5. Today in History: On Nov. 6, 1913, Mohanda Gandhi was arrested while leading a march of Indian miners in South Africa.
