DPH Accepts 'Phase 2' Medical Marijuana Dispensary Applications

Here are the five things you need to know before you start your day in Salem.


Today is Friday, Nov. 22, and here are the five things you need to know: 

1. You'll want to be prepared for some wet weather today. The National Weather Service is predicting that local residents can expect showers, mainly before 4 p.m. and a high temperature near 47. Tonight should be mostly cloudy, with a low around 34. (sunrise, 6:43 a.m.; low tide, 7:45 a.m.; high tide, 1:58 p.m.; sunset, 4:15 p.m.) 

2. Medical marijuana dispensary applicants looking to open a business in Salem delivered their Phase 2 applications to the Department of Public Health Thursday. The medical marijuana law requires the state to license between 14 and 35 dispensaries statewide, with at least one but no more than five per county. The list of applicants that will receive registrations to operate is expected to be released on Jan. 31. Click Here for our latest story.

3. The Danvers High School student accused of killing his teacher, Colleen Ritzer of Andover, has been indicted by an Essex County Grand Jury for first degree murder and aggravated rape, as well as armed robbery District Attorney Jonathan Blodgett's office announced Thursday.
