Today is Thursday, Nov. 21, and here are the five things you need to know

1. It should be another nice day in Salem. The National Weather Service is predicting that local residents can expect it to be sunny, with a high near 47. Tonight should be mostly cloudy, with a low around 34. (sunrise, 6:42 a.m.; low tide, 7:02 a.m.; high tide, 1:15 p.m.; sunset, 4:16 p.m.)

3. The Salem Planning Board will meet tonight on the third floor of the City Hall Annex on Washington Street. The meeting, scheduled to begin at 7 p.m., is expected to feature a discussion regarding a proposed development on Webster Street, according to the posted agenda.

4. The 2013 Salem Winter Market will be held today at Old Town Hall. The market will run from 3 to 6 p.m. and will feature produce from local farms, pasture-fed meat, spices, pickles, soup, baked goods, artisan soap, jewelry, wreaths, and more.

5. Today in History: On Nov. 21, 1877, Thomas Edison announced his invention of the phonograph, a machine that can record and play sound.
