Salem CPA Hearing Draws a Crowd

Here are the five things you need to know before you start your day in Salem.

Today is Wednesday, Nov. 13, and here are the five things you need to know:

1. It should be a cold day in Salem. The National Weather Service is predicting that local residents can expect it to be sunny, with a high near 37. Tonight should be partly cloudy, with a low around 29. (sunrise, 6:32 a.m.; high tide, 7:21 a.m.; low tide, 1:29 p.m.; sunset, 4:22 p.m.)

2. A small crowd of city residents made their way to the City Hall Annex Tuesday night to take part in a public hearing focused on Salem's Community Preservation Act plan. Suggested projects included Fort Pickering, Greenlawn Cemetery and The Salem Willows. Public input will be accepted in writing through Nov. 22 to The DPCD, 120 Washington St., Salem, MA 01970; by email to jguy@salem.com; and by fax at 978-740-0404.

3. It looks like Londi's Roast Beef, Pizza & More will be opening their second location on Traders Way in Salem. At their meeting at the City Hall Annex Tuesday night, the Salem Licensing Board unanimously approved an application from Londi's for a common victualler's license. 4. The National Parks Service announced Tuesday that portions of the forward and middle masts onboard the Friendship of Salem will be removed by a large crane Friday as part of scheduled maintenance work. Be prepared for road closures while work is underway. Click Here for our full story.

5. Today in History: On Nov. 13, 1927, The Holland Tunnel opened to traffic as the first vehicle tunnel linking New Jersey to New York City.
