Here are the five things you need to know before you start your day in Salem.

Today is Friday, Jan. 24, and here are the five things you need to know:

1. It will be another freezing day in Salem. The National Weather Service is predicting that local residents can expect it to be sunny, with a high near 14. Tonight should be mostly cloudy, with a low around 12. (sunrise, 7:04 a.m.; low tide, 10:46 a.m.; sunset, 4:46 p.m.; high tide, 4:57 p.m.)

2. Salem residents recycle electronics for free on the last Saturday of each month.  So on Saturday you can drop off your items at the DPW, 5 Jefferson Ave., from 8 a.m. to noon. Click Here for more information.

3. Salem High School's boys' varsity basketball team will take on Winthrop tonight at the high school, so consider stopping by to cheer them on! Click Here for game information.

4. Looking for something to do this weekend? A truly unique exhibit that harnesses the everyday movements of a flock of finches to create beautiful music recently opened at the Peabody Essex Museum in Salem. Click Here for our full story.

5. Today in History: On Jan. 24, 1908, the first Boy Scout troop was organized in England by Robert Baden-Powell.
