Salem YMCA Needs Your Help to Replenish Local Food Pantry

Here are the five things you need to know before you start your day in Salem.


Today is Wednesday, Jan. 15, and here are the five things you need to know: 

1. It should be another nice day in Salem. The National Weather Service is predicting that local residents can expect it to be increasingly cloudy, with a high near 48. Tonight should be mostly cloudy, with a low around 35. (sunrise, 7:10 a.m.; high tide, 10:33 a.m.; sunset, 4:35 p.m.; low tide, 4:49 p.m.)

2. The Salem YMCA is hoping to raise two tons of food to replenish the Salem Food Pantry before the end of January. The YMCA will have volunteers waiting for your contribution of non-perishable food stationed at Steve's Market, Crosby's Market and the Salem Y this weekend from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

3. Salem High School's varsity wrestling team will host Peabody Veterans Memorial tonight. The wrestling meet is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m. Click Here for full details. 

4. The Salem Zoning Board of Appeals will meet tonight on the third floor of the City Hall Annex on Washington Street. The meeting, scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m., is expected to feature hearings regarding several proposed building project, according to the posted agenda.

5. Today in History: On Jan. 15, 1777, New Connecticut, which is present day Vermont, declared its independence.
