Today is Friday, Dec. 6, and here are the five things you need to know:

1. You'll want to be prepared for some wet weather in Salem today. The National Weather Service is predicting that local residents can expect rain, and a daily high near 50. Tonight should be rainy, with a low around 34. (sunrise, 6:58 a.m.; low tide, 7:06 a.m.; high tide, 1:21 p.m.; sunset, 4:10 p.m.)

2. Don't forget! Santa Claus will arrive at the top of the Hawthorne Hotel tonight at 6 p.m. with assistance from the Salem Fire Department. Santa’s arrival will be followed by a short stop for cocoa and caroling at the gazebo on Salem Common. The parade will then continue to Museum Place Mall for pictures with Santa. Click Here for more information.

3. At their meeting Thursday night, Salem city councilors unanimously approved increasing the annual fee for a dog license in Salem from $10 to $15 for the owners of non-neutered and non-spayed dogs. The change was made so the city would be in compliance with changes to state regulations.

4. A Boy Scout holiday wreath purchased in Salem this weekend will do more than just decorate your home - it will support the ongoing restoration project of Salem Common's McIntire/Washington Arch. The wreaths will be on sale all weekend. Click Here for more information.

5. Today in History: On Dec. 6, 1790, the U.S. Congress moved from New York City to Philadelphia, Pa.
