Chism Pleads Not Guilty to Charges in Murder Case

1. You'll want to be prepared for some wet weather in Salem today. The National Weather Service is predicting that local residents can expect rain, mainly after 9 a.m. and a daily high near 51. Tonight should be cloudy, with a low around 47. (sunrise, 6:57 a.m.; high tide, 12:27 p.m.; sunset, 4:10 p.m.; low tide, 6:50 p.m.)
2. Fourteen-year-old Philip Chism appeared briefly in Salem Superior Court Wednesday afternoon for an arraignment on charges of first-degree murder, aggravated rape and armed robbery in the death of Danvers High teacher Colleen Ritzer. Click Here for our full story.
3. Although the owner was given a stern warning at a Salem Licensing Board meeting last month, the Fresh Taste of Asia on Washington Street lost its liquor license Wednesday afternoon. Click Here for our full story.
4. The Salem City Council will meet tonight at City Hall on Washington Street. The meeting, scheduled to begin at 7 p.m., is expected to feature a discussion regarding a proposed ordinance to increase dog license fees for owners of non-neutered and non-spayed dogs, according to the posted agenda.
5. Today in History: On Dec. 5, 1955, E.D. Nixon and Rosa Parks led the Montgomery Bus Boycott.
