Salem Board to Discuss Old Salem Jail Project Tonight

Here are the five things you need to know before you start your day in Salem.


Today is Wednesday, Dec. 18, and here are the five things you need to know: 

1. You can expect a break from all this wintry weather today. The National Weather Service is predicting that local residents can expect it to be sunny, with a high near 33. Tonight should be increasingly cloudy, with a low around 25. (sunrise, 7:08 a.m.; high tide, 11:32 a.m.; sunset, 4:12 p.m.; low tide, 5:50 p.m.) 

2. The Salem Design Review Board is scheduled to meet tonight on the third floor of the City Hall Annex on Washington Street. The meeting will begin at 6 p.m. and is expected to feature a discussion about Phase Two of a project at the former Salem Jail on St. Peter Street. Click Here to view the posted agenda.

3. The Salem Zoning Board of Appeals will meet tonight on the third floor of the City Hall Annex on Washington Street. The meeting, scheduled to begin at 6:45 p.m., is expected to feature a discussion regarding a proposed project at Jacqueline's Gourmet Cookies, according to the posted agenda.

4. Salem High School's varsity wrestling team will host Gloucester this afternoon at the high school. The wrestling meet is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m., so consider stopping by to cheer them on! 

5. Today in History: On Dec. 18, 1892, the premiere performance of The Nutcracker by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky was held in Saint Petersburg, Russia.
