Salem State Residence Hall Hearing Tonight

Today is Thursday, Dec. 12, and here are the five things you need to know:

1. It will be another frigid day in Salem. The National Weather Service is predicting that local residents can expect it to be sunny, with a high near 24. Tonight should be partly cloudy, with a low around 19. (sunrise, 7:04 a.m.; low tide, 1:11 p.m.; sunset, 4:10 p.m.; high tide, 7:30 p.m.)

2. The Salem Conservation Commission will meet tonight on the third floor of the City Hall Annex on Washington Street. The meeting, scheduled to begin at 6 p.m., is expected to feature a public hearing regarding the construction of a new residence hall at Salem State University, according to the posted agenda.

3. It looks like the new AL Prime gas station on Lafayette Street will soon be ready for business - and a sign posted earlier this week suggests the attached convenience store will be offering brick-oven pizza. Click Here to check out a recent photo of the site.

4. Looking to move to a new home in town? Here's the list you need. Our partners at Zillow have compiled this list of new homes for sale in every price range. Click Here for our full story.

5. Today in History: On Dec. 12, 2000, the United States Supreme Court released its decision in Bush v. Gore.
