SSockapella Winter Showcase Tonight

Here are the five things you need to know before you start your day in Salem.


Today is Wednesday, Dec. 11, and here are the five things you need to know: 

1. You can expect it to be another cold day in Salem. The National Weather Service is predicting that local residents can expect it to be mostly sunny, with a high near 32. Tonight should be mostly cloudy, with a low around 20. (sunrise, 7:03 a.m.; low tide, 12:03 p.m.; sunset, 4:10 p.m.; high tide, 6:28 p.m.)

2. Salem State University's a cappella group, SSockapella, will hold a Winter Showcase tonight at 7:30 p.m. at the Callan Theatre in the basement of the university's Sullivan Building. The event will include favorite popular songs from singers such as Miley Cyrus, Lady Gaga, Awolnation, as well as some holiday favorites.

3. A Marblehead man pleaded guilty Tuesday in Salem Superior Court to rape and indecent assault and battery charges after he posted nude photographs of the victim on Facebook. Click Here for our full story.

4. The Salem School Building Committee will meet this afternoon at School Committee Chambers on Highland Avenue. The meeting is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m., according to the posted agenda.

5. Today in History: On Dec. 11, 1972, Apollo 17 became the sixth and last Apollo mission to land on the Moon.
