1. You'll want to be prepared for some wet weather today.The National Weather Service is predicting that local residents can expect isolated thunderstorms after 2 p.m. Otherwise it will be sunny, with a high near 73. 2. Former Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives, Nancy Pelosi, will appear Friday in Beverly alongside U.S. Rep. John Tierney, D-Salem. Pelosi, the first female Speaker of the House who is now the House Democratic Party leader, will take part in a discussion titled “When Women Succeed, America Succeeds” at the Cummings Center.

5. Today in History: On Aug. 23, 2011, a magnitude 5.8 earthquake occurred in Virginia, damaging monuments and structures in Washington D.C. and causing more than $200 million in damage.
