Salem Diner Set to Reopen Wednesday

Here are the five things you need to know before you start your day in Salem.


Today is Tuesday, Jan. 14, and here are the five things you need to know: 

1. You'll want to bring your umbrella with you before you leave the house today. The National Weather Service is predicting that local residents can expect heavy rain and a daily high near 49. Tonight should be cloudy, with a low around 35. (sunrise, 7:11 a.m.; high tide, 9:52 a.m.; low tide, 4:10 p.m.; sunset, 4:34 p.m.)

2. Salem State University announced Monday morning thatThe Salem Diner on Loring Avenue will reopen on Wednesday, Jan. 15 under the management of Chartwells, the university's catering vendor. Click Here for our full story.

3. Salem High School's girls' varsity basketball team will host the Danvers Falcons tonight at the high school. Click Here for game details. 

4. The Salem Community Preservation Committee meeting scheduled for tonight at 6 p.m. at the City Hall Annex on Washington Street has been cancelled, according to the calendar on the city's website

5. Today in History: On Jan. 14, 1858, Napoleon III escaped an assassination attempt.
