Back to School for Salem Public School Students

Here are the five things you need to know before you start your day in Salem.

Today is Wednesday, Sept. 4, and here are the five things you need to know:

1. It should be a picture-perfect day in Salem. The National Weather Service is predicting that local residents can expect it to be sunny, with a high near 78. Tonight should be cloudy, with a low around 59. (sunrise, 6:11 a.m.; high tide, 11:14 a.m.; low tide, 5:11 p.m.; sunset, 7:12 p.m.)

2. Rise and shine, it's the first day of school for Salem public school students! Click Here to view this year's school calendar and remember to be prepared for increased traffic.

3. The South Essex Sewage Board will meet this afternoon at the Administration Building on Fort Avenue. The meeting is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m., according to the posted agenda

4. In case you missed it - we recently published a user-submitted video of shark spotted at Phillips Beach in Swampscott. Click Here for a little more information about the species from an expert at the New England Aquarium.

5. Today in History: On Sept. 4, 1998, Google was founded by Larry Page and Sergey Brin, two students at Stanford University.
