Sylvia Waters, Ailey II Artistic Director Emerita, and Ana-Marie Forsythe, Chair of the Horton Department use selected texts, including Jennifer Dunning’s biography Alvin Ailey: A Life in Dance, and archival footage of performances and interviews, to explore Mr. Ailey’s singular vision. The program will look at the impact of his work on the arts and society with special attention to his musical collaborations with Duke Ellington, Max Roach and Charlie Mingus, among others.

Founded in 1854, Salem State University gained its university status on July 28, 2010. Over 10,000 graduate and undergraduate students study at the university, which has both full-time and part-time programs. It currently offers 29 majors and 59 minors to undergraduates.
