As you've probably seen out your window, we've got some storms rolling in. How long will they last and what's the deal?Well, the National Weather Service (NWS) did issue a severe thunderstorm warning until 9:15 a.m., but we're almost that time now, and we've still got dark skies. The NWS Doppler radar indicated the line of thunderstorms is capable of producing quarter size hail. The storm is moving at 35 mph. Make sure to stay inside — NWS predicts winds might bring down small branches and we could have some minor flooding.

The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a winter storm warning that goes into effect at 6 a.m. and will remain in effect until 1 a.m. Thursday. In a notice for Salem and surrounding areas issued at 10:15 p.m. Monday, NWS predicted up to 16 inches of snow through Thursday afternoon. NWS predicts winter weather will hit the region in two rounds. The first round will begin between 5 a.m. and 8 a.m. Tuesday morning and will “impact at least part of the morning rush hour.” A break in snow Tuesday evening will be followed by a second round starting Tuesday night into Wednesday. Wednesday night, the National Weather Service predicted Salem was poised to receive up to 8 inches of snow from a nor'easter aimed at the region. The City of Salem announced its fourth snow emergency of the year on Wednesday afternoon, going into effect at 9 p.m. Salem Public Schools cancelled Thursday classes Wednesday evening in anticipation of hazardous weather. Accidents were reported Tuesday morning and Wednesday evening after a wintry mix coated City streets. At 11:34 a.m., the National Weather Service (NWS) issued a hazardous weather outlook for Salem and surrounding communities until 4 p.m. Snow and rain with the possibility of freezing rain was predicted along with "patchy freezing fog." Snow may be heavy earlier in the afternoon. Wintry accumulations may reach three to five inches. High temperatures may reach the mid-30s. This evening, rain and freezing rain is expected.
