A business catering to local freelancers, work-from-home professionals and small businesses will open soon on New Derby Street.
Working from home certainly has its perks - but sometimes it takes a desk, an office chair and a good pot of coffee to really get down to brass tacks. For many work-from-home professionals, getting out of the home office and into a workspace where you can shoot the breeze with others in your field or host a round-table with coworkers is essential. That's the hope of Launch Cooperative, a new workspace opening at 20 New Derby St. later this month aimed at providing a open work environment for freelancers, start-ups and small businesses. According to their flyer, the business' goal is to "foster an open community of like-minded individuals that can get work done without expensive rental rates and long-term commitments." Salem Wine Imports will reopen under new ownership later this summer.
Another business on on Church Street in Salem is changing hands. At their meeting Monday night, the Salem Licensing Board unanimously approved the transfer of the annual wine and malt package store license possessed by Salem Wine Imports to the shop's new owner, Katherine Genis. Genis' lawyer told board members she recently purchased the space and its inventory from the former owner for $375,000 and expects to officially take over the business sometime in August. The business will keep the same name, she said. Earlier this month, the licensing board approved the transfer of an all-alcoholic beverage license held by the former 43 Church Restaurant to the owners of Turner's Seafood Grill & Market, which is expected to open on Church Street …

A round up of North Shore restaurant and food news.
Here's our round up of the area's latest food news: Big news — Salem is getting a fish market! When I moved to Salem in December, I was surprised that the nearest one was the excellent Cherry Street Fish Market in Danvers. The new spot, a combination market/restaurant, will be an outpost of Turner's in Melrose. The Turners will be in the old 43 Church space downtown. This is also something of a Danvers story, since Turner's had been eyeing a parcel off 128 before deciding to go for the Salem location. For people with nut allergies, finding ice cream made in nut-free environments can be tough. A nut-free bakery in Lynnfield, Jeanne's Bakeshop, is catering to that need now with their recent addition of nut-free sundaes and ice cream. Also in…
