Catherine Larkin and Larkin Lane

Did you know that Larkin Lane near The Willows was named for Catherine Larkin in 1954? She was the only nurse from Salem who was killed during World War II when the plane she was on went down over Europe. Salem held a big ceremony in her honor when the street was named for her in 1954. A big marker was erected so that we would never forget the sacrifice she made.

Sadly, all that's left is a street sign. You can read more about her here.
