Boys & Girls Club Members have an Event Filled Week
The end of October was an exciting week for Kid’s Club
Members, as both the Witchcraft Kid’s Club and the Hawthorne Kid’s Club
celebrate Halloween with a costume party at the Peabody Essex Museum, as they
explored the "Legacy of Change" and "Invention of Glory"
exhibits. Thank you PEM!
In artistic endeavors, girls in the Creative Writing program
started illustrating their children's books, which included imaginative
drawings of unicorn, sheep and polar bears.
The Puppet Theater kids continued to work on the set for
their December production of "The Kitten Who Couldn't Purr". Members of the Witchcraft Kid’s Club busted a
few moves in a popular Hip Hop dance class.
In Teen news, volunteer instructor Sharon Hunt helped
members cook up some tasty tacos, and teens from Ireland sponsored by the
Forever Friends group visited the Club.
In the weekly Boys & Girls Club member awards, the Stars
of the Week were Selia Rocheville and Gabriel Garcia. Our Power Hour Homeward
Award Winners were Ariannna Ragonese and Isabella Santana. The weekly
Sportsmanship Awards went to Kyle Espinal and Zack Oullette. The Torch Member
of the Month was Jeremy Pena.
The Boys & Girls Club is excited to welcome Robert Lynch
as the new Science and Technology Coordinator, and director of the new
Robbotics Program. This is a national Boys & Girls Club program, made
possible by our generous sponsor, Cell Signaling Technology in Danvers, MA.
In the weeks ahead, Ultimate Journey Club members are
looking forward to a scavenger hunt around Salem to discover how our
environment is impacted by natural and man made items such things as salt
water, trees and trash. Club kids are also anticipating an upcoming visit from
the Salem Police K-9 officer dogs, who received three new leashes thanks to a
$75 fundraising effort by members.
The Boys & Girls Club is once again excited to host the
Wild Turkey 5 Mile Run on Thanksgiving morning. This holiday tradition is the
largest race on the North Shore, and proceeds will benefit programs at the Boys
& Girls Club of Greater Salem. For race information or to register, contact
Doug Bollen at 978-744-0915.
