Everything about Wynott's Wands is straight out of a Harry Potter novel.
From the store's cashier, decked out from head to toe like Albus Dumbledore, to the rows of magic wands at the ready, exact replicas of those found for sale in the book series' famed Diagon Alley.
The wand shop, which opened on Pickering Wharf in September, is gearing up for its first Halloween in Salem, and management said they are hoping that the holiday rush will help put the store on the map.
On Monday, Samantha King, manager at Remember Salem, the store's affiliate on Essex Street, said the press was on to get Wynott's open in time for Halloween.
"Remember Salem has been open for about two years, so we know how busy it gets around here during Halloween," King said, adding the she expects business to be brisk at Salem's newest Harry Potter-themed destination.

HP is huge (I am not a fan but many people are) and tourism is the #2 (soon to be the #1) industry in Salem. You don't think there is a 'customer base' in a tourist town for a store loosely based on a hugely successful book?

HP licensed stuff sells well. Huge following (look at the book sales). Cost a bit more as they are authentic and licensed, but are excellent quality and come in a smashing great box. The chocolate frogs are not so good, because last I heard, the producer hasn't committed to not using slave labor (googling Harry Potter chocolate should find the latest on the controversy).

Love HP. Must disagree with the quality of the wands having inspected them at Universal, Fla. They are cheap moulded resin and hugely overpriced. Did not waste my money. HP world was REALLY WELL DONE though.
Much better to find a suitable stick, lightly sand it down, varnish it, lightly resand in places, apply a wax to give it an old look and wrap the handle with leather cord. Looks better and si not tacky.

These are hardly 'exact replicas' of the wands from the movies/books. You can see the 'quality' of them from the images - mass produced on lathes and poorly stained. Too bad.

Actually they are NOT 'mass produced' they are hand turned individually. I know this for a fact as the local witch who makes the wands for this store also makes higher quality with imported woods wands for my occult store next door to Wynotts.

Wow what a bunch of sticks in the mud. Rather then congratulate the man on something new and different for the town all some of you people can do is gripe and be overly critical at. When was the last time any of you opened up something different and interesting in downtown Salem I wonder? oh.. that's right... never. Easy to complain from your armchair...
