Woman Finds Feces, Used Wipe on Porch

The following was provided by the Salem Police Department. Where charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

 

The Salem Police responded to the following calls and made the following arrests on Tuesday and Wednesday. 

Tuesday, May 8

5:45 p.m. — A stolen bicycle was reported on Congress Street. 

5:58 p.m. — Police received a call from Congress Street about a neighbor that keeps knocking on the door. 

9:38 p.m. — An undesirable person in a store was reported on Washington Street. The person was gone when police arrived. 

10:45 p.m. — Police said a man yelling on the sidewalk was reported at Washington and New Derby streets, but he was gone by the time officers arrived. 

11:05 p.m. — Intoxicated people bothering customers at Tavern in the Square were reported. Police said they encountered a man who was not intoxicated, but he was advised to leave. 

11:10 p.m. — A man on Columbus Avenue said a white dog, possibly a Schnauzer, followed him home. The dog was transported back to the station. 

Tuesday Arrest

Jackson Vergil Depiero, 22, of 385 Lafayette St. was arrested on a charge of operating a vehicle after a license suspension. 

Wednesday, May 9

12:34 a.m. — Some sort of issue at a bar was reported on Washington Street. Police said they weren't able to find an issue. 

6:09 a.m. — A disturbance was reported on Flying Cloud Lane. Police said a man told them his neighbor was banging on the wall. The neighbor said only she and her daughter live in the apartment. They were advised to not to bang anymore if anyone had been banging. 

7:26 a.m. — A motor vehicle break-in was reported on Turner Street. 

7:26 a.m. — Ducks in the road were reported on Willson Street. Police said the ducks were assisted by Officer Driscoll.

8:56 a.m. — Illegal dumping later reported as vandalism was reported on Herbert Street. Police said they spoke with a woman who said that morning "she found a pile of human feces on her front porch. Next to the pile was a small wipe that was also used." The woman said she didn't have any idea who would have done that and was unaware of problems that she or other tenants have had. She was advised to call police if there is any new information about this incident. Police said there were no suspects or witnesses. 

9:19 a.m. — Graffiti was reported at the Bank of America on Washington Street. Police said an employee found fresh spray paint on the side of the building which read "pay your taxes."

11:02 a.m. — Damage to a room at the Clipper Ship Inn was reported. Police said a woman reported she found the smell of smoke and a burn mark on bedding in a non-smoking room. 

1:50 p.m. — A suspicious man was reported on Cedar Street. A woman said a man knocked on the door while her son was home alone and said he was there to fix the stove. When the son said the oven was not broken, the man left, police said. 

2:36 p.m. — Damage to a vehicle was reported on Hazel Street. 

 2:45 p.m. — A woman voiced concern that she saw a bus driver swearing at other drivers while her school bus was occupied.

4:14 p.m. — A possible homeless camp in the woods was reported on Tanglewood Lane. 

Wednesday Arrest

Darwin Francis Melendez, 31, of 32 Perkins St. was arrested on charges of disorderly conduct, resisting arrest and operating a  vehicle after a license suspension.
