I never pay to park. If you are local and ambulatory, ride a bike or take a great walk. There is even a bike share now, I believe, by the Hawthorne Hotel and Salem State University Police Station. I will lobby for a trike for those who are less ambulatory like my twin.

If folks insist on the convenience and social and environmental burdens of using automobiles for local travel, then they can pay us to offset those impacts.

The glaring omission I see is Salem Woods Conservation Area. Salem Green(s?) golf course, adjacent to it, is likely a fine escape, as well. Especially for cross country skiing when conditions permit. If they ever will again, what with global warming coming home to roost.

Me again. I cannot resist mentioning the other glaring omission: the world-class Peaboby Essex Museum!!! Travel the world of art from the comfort of your own city. Free to residents even! A big reason I moved "over the bridge" from Beverly.

And, of course, there's the National Maritime Historic Park.

Oh, and to travel the world with documentaries for eight days from the comfort of Cinema Salem, attend the annual Salem Film Fest!

I used to like Forest River Park until it was taken over by the moron dog owners who won't obey the leash laws. Salem has a dog park; maybe we should ban dogs from other parks so the rest of us can enjoy them.

Winter Island (maybe I say it now because it's summer time!). PEM (for cold, gray days).

The fees for Winter Island and Forest River, for residents, are a double tax.By the way, what does the city do with the money? Winter Island is an eyesore. The City of Salem should be as accoutable with taxes as the taxpayers
