What Should Go in the Old Ted Cole's Spot?

Tell us what you envision for this Church Street spot.

Ted Cole's is no longer occupying a prime spot on Church Street, and RCG is looking for a new occupant.

The building is located adjacent to Nicks Firehouse Coffee Shop and steps away from the Church Street lot.

If you had the resources and the authority to decide what would go here, what would you choose?

How can we improve Church Street?

Tell us in the comments.

A bookstore would be wonderful there with convenient parking and a quick walk for children as well as adults.

A new Ted Cole's. Why is Salem waning its music scene? Thank Lemmy, musicians are a tenacious breed.
I don't care about sports, and you don't care about live music, so...why are we in the same place? How about a venue specific to jam? Not a sport bar. Not a "venuerant". A freakin place to enjoy music, nightly. Without some overgrown hate muppet running the place, would be nice....

A coffee house with a cafe menu, live music in the evening. it could serve the purpose of an additional breakfast/ lunch venue for Court Houses and day businesses in area, and a place for locals and tourists alike in the evenings.

The fact that it was the original location of FIRE HEADQUARTERS a Fire Museum seems like a good choice.

I agree with you John and Fire Museum would be great. We have enough bars and eatery places in Salem. Let pick up on some of Salem's history. Great idea!!!!

A store that carries clothes that people actually fit into but no one sells unless customized. Plus size, mini and quirky sizes 3,5, 7, 11,13 etc. pants for the straight waist no rear,or the big bottom small waist, bras you cant find anywhere, sock and shoe size 13 and up and 1 and under all the sizes no one can find anywhere, wide shoes and clothes or the super narrow and thin etc. Gloves and hats in not just sm med n large, that fit. Salem is just the most quirky town in the world...perfect spot for this nonconformist, historic ecclectic. If I had the capital or credit Id do it myself ! Or anything that provides jobs!

Downtown Salem has no mens clothing store, no stationary store (strange considering all the lawyer offices), or a cafeteria style restaurant (Brothers is not in the downtown). Anyone of those would work.

I would LOVE this! As long as it isn't crappy Papyrus; I can get their cards at Target. Would love to see this store anywhere in Salem:

A bit high-end? Yes. When I still lived in CT the closest Kate's was in Greenwich. But so worth the money.

Please, no Trader Joe's. Ugh.

Gene - there's a mens store right downtown, next door to the Gulu. And what do you mean Brothers isn't downtown?

I want Pho. Pho, Pho, Pho. Either that or a butcher or fishmonger. Why do I have to drive to Beverly to get my fish and meat?

Bookstore/stationery supplies needed-- but someone with vision to give these services a modern twist-- maybe add ereader rentals (the devices), some WIFI and even a couple of rent-by-the-15 minute-desktop machines for those whose internet access is off. Open up a counter to the coffeeshop next door and furnish with chairs and a couple of lounges. Also a used books free trade shelf. Just have to figure out the right combo of revenue-generators and traffic generators.

This same question keeps coming up for property all over downtown and the wharf and the vacancy rate is going up.

It should be something Salem can really use, like a parking meter manufacturing facility.
