What Should Go Here?: Front Street

This commercial space on Front Street is still vacant. What would you like to see move in?

Marketplace Quilts moved to a new location last summer and this commercial space at 6 Front St. is still vacant.

The building is located steps away the Fire Department, Derby Square and Artists' Row.

As part of our Visions for Vacancies column, we want to know - what kind of business do you think should move in at this location?

Have you been hoping for a certain kind of business to come to town? Is there something you think would thrive in this section of Salem?

Let us know in the comments section below.

Trader Joe's!

(I know that's entirely impractical, but every time you post one of these, someone says Trader Joe's, even though almost none of the spaces are nearly large enough.)

Would love to see a hybrid store composed of a used book store and wizard statue shop. Or, a hybrid composed of a coffee shop that also sells art with a broom shop. Or even better, a triple threat hybrid composed of a store that sells pet items, coffee and organic clothing.

Salem only supports businesses that sell alcohol, fake blood and witch hats, or bad food. Take your pick from any of those three.

P.S. - Mayor Kim is an embarassment.

As a former resident of Salem, I would like to see a smaller version of an IHOP like shop, like the one on route 1, Saugus, that stays open very late, let's say from Thursday to Saturday, so that college students, haunted happening tourist, and others that might have had a little bit much to drink, can have something to eat and sober up before they get behind the wheel.

I would like to open a clothing store there specializing in hats and shoes but also including sunglasses watches, etc great for local, nearby towns, and will be great during tourist season. Too bad I don't have the money to open it.

A mobile device + app emporium with a fruit/yogurt smoothie bar. And, of course, wi-fi. Very chic.
