What's Moving Into Coven's Old Space?

Life Alive will bring a vegetarian/vegan option to downtown Salem.

If you've been downtown recently, you may have noticed a new sign on the window at 281 Essex St., the space where Coven used to be.

Over the past two months, there has been talk a new vegan/vegetarian restaurant will be coming to town — items from Coven have moved out renovations have been ongoing.

We can now confirm that Salem will be getting a new addition to its restaurant community. Last week, the Salem Redevelopment Authority officially approved signage for Coven's replacement — Life Alive — a self-proclaimed "urban oasis" and "organic cafe."

The restaurant is slated to open in May.

Life Alive currently has locations in Cambridge and Lowell.

The mission of the business is to "feed the vitality of the world…one meal at a time," according to the Life Alive website.

The website further states: "we are here to renew your energy and connection to life by soulfully serving you the most fantastic, vibrant, organic, therapeutic, whole food you could ever imagine in an inspiring environment that honors local artisans, the community, and our global ecology."

For a sample menu, and more information, visit the Life Alive website. Follow the restaurant on Facebook here.
