Nelson Dionne is sharing more of his extensive Salem collection with Salem Patch.

In light of the fact that DPW hasn't had to bring out the plows yet even though it's January, Nelson helped us turn back time to a prior Salem season when there was lots of snow.

Dionne sent along the following message with the photograph:

"[Here's] Something different — a shot of a Pyburn Construction Co. (Peabody) front end loader. It was usually only used off road in quarries or for clearing land. [In this photo it was] clearing snow at the junction of Bradley and Sumner Roads in Salem after the Blizzard of 1978. This is what it took to clear the amount of snow that fell, making this storm a much remembered event. Still miss snow?"

Everyone should have the experience of living through at least one storm like that in a lifetime. Time stood still as people made the best of a unique storm. The National Gaurd was called in to clear the snow and college students were stuck in the dorms making for a party like atmosphere around the city.I recall a Army loader picking up a car that was buried and dumping it into a truck unknowingly.
