Village Tavern Grill & Oyster Bar to Take Over Old Lakay Island Space
The restaurant should be opening in the next few weeks.
The space formerly occupied by Lakay Island will be getting new life in the next few weeks.
Village Tavern Grill & Oyster Bar is finishing up preparations and getting final sign offs from the city in the coming days, according to owner Arthur Ingemi.
The restaurant is slated for an Aug. 15 opening, according to the Village Tavern website.
The restaurant will feature "a variety of great appetizers, burgers and sandwiches along with a nice variety of charbroiled steaks, authentic BBQ, selected seafood and a separate oyster bar featuring of course, oysters, cherrystones, and shrimp," Ingemi wrote in an email.
In addition to full lunch and dinner menus, the restaurant will cater to those who want to keep up on sporting action with 12 HD televisions.
The coolest part for Patch? It seems one of our regular columns — Visions for Vacancies — complete with your suggestions helped in bringing the restaurant to Salem. Ingemi said the February article and comments played a part in identifying the space for the new venture.
We'll be bringing you more on this new addition to Salem in the coming days.
Is there any place we should include in our next Visions for Vacancies? Let us know in the comments.

Honestly, I wish them well. But no restaurant has ever been successful in that spot, dating all the way back to when that silly mall was built. Seems like throwing good money after bad. I hope that they have a new plan for getting people in the door.

Good luck! It's always good news when empty locations fill up....but I would totally avoid the word "Tavern" in a restaurant name in Salem right now. This would make #3 and the other two seem to get confused constantly already....

Finz is a dump. Are you concerned about new competition moving into the neighborhood? You should be.

Finally good use of that area! That whole outside needs restraunt seating. Wouldn't it be nice if they had a couple restraunts there, like Miami, where you could watch all the people walk by, and give some life to that dead corner.

I wonder if they will have a liquor license on day one. Seems to be an issue with other openings. Will there be any music offerings?

Finz wasabi oysters are amazing, so aren't the vodka oysters.

The problem with Finz is the awful sewerage smell out side the front door and even worse smell from the trash dumpster in back.

It's true that people confuse the two current "Taverns" in Salem, but it appears the owner is creating a downscale, relaxed place, at least that's what I read from the name and the many TV screens.
I wish them the best, and welcome a new dining choice!

Yes they have a liquor license already and outside seating for 80 people. 35 seat main bar on top of the Oyster bar. 14 draft beers and 48 ounce cocktails!
