VIDEO: Spam Takes Over Salem

Spam was star on Sunday at annual .

Participants used Spam and sets of wooden wheels to craft vehicles that raced down a wooden track.

Twenty contestants from across the North Shore participated in the event.

Superior engineering and a keen sense of style brought a Dodge Street Spamwood Derby crown to the determined head of returning champion Liz from Panera Bread.

Liz designed a Spam-based vehicle with the front axle and at least half of the body weight towards the front end. Festooned with glitter and a peacock feather in the back, her design fought off all competition and easily won the final heat.

A large and raucous crowd cheered and jeered as each of the preliminary heats produced winners and losers.
