Riders at Salem Station were greeted Thursday morning by top management of the MBTA, including General Manager Richard Davey, who has been touring the state talking to commuters.

Local commuters should benefit from plans for a new $30 million parking garage, which Davey said should be completed by the end of 2013 or in early 2014.

The project is still in the design phase, with construction scheduled to start in 2012.

"There are a lot of worthy projects out there that aren't funded," Davey said. "But this one is a top priority."

Davey said Salem Station is one of the busiest in the state.
