Mayor Kim Driscoll says she aims to help create a site that, "for the next 40 or 50 years" Salemites can be proud of.

Mayor Kim Driscoll was among the more than 200 people who attended a Wednesday "Executive Breakfast" featuring the CEO of the company that aims to transform the city's coal-fired facility into a smaller, cleaner — and much better looking gas plant.

In this quick video, taken after Peter Furniss of Footprint Power spoke to a capacity crowd of more than 200 at Tuesday morning's North Shore Chamber of Commerce Executive Breakfast Forum, Driscoll gives a snapshot of what the project means to Salem.

Hi jeanmarie,
Thanks for commenting. It's true our mayor is a public figure, but let's still be civil and leave off the personal attacks. It's part of what you agree to when you comment on this site. Here's a link to our terms of use. http://salem.patch.com/terms

What is she going to do with St. Joseph's Church? She's great at ruining history and the school system. Let's design Salem to be the city of low income housing. Awesome job mayor.

I have an idea... How about if we just tear down that horrible eyesore of a power plant altogether?

Kim's plan is simple, sub out everything. A company from Taunton cuts the grass in our parks, our tax bills go to Woburn, most public works projects are out sourced and it goes on and on. She fights every union and usually looses. She is the reason the transfer station is not resolved, she is hard headed and it's her way or the highway. We find money for everything except the transfer station. I remmember when Salem hired veterens. She should be ashamed of herself.

Most cities and towns are now contracting out public works duties, it's just a smarter way to spend our tax money.

I hope jeanmarie is ashamed of her comments, how tasteless. Between Washington Street and this plant though are many residents who have to fight to park on residential streets. How about any enforcement?

Would you have made the same comment, jeanmarie, about a male politician?
Would you have made that same comment using your full name and photo?

John Kerry looks more and more like Mr. Ed every time I see him. Driscolls problem is she babbles and is never willing to take responsability for her mistakes.

I'll tell you what is tasteless is out sourcing average joe jobs while administrators make $100k plus.Look at the different city depatrments and see how many employees work in each one and explain why our tax and water and excise payments got to a third party in Woburn. Also what is going on with the new police cruisers? It seems like every 6 months they get replaced. I remmember when our police cars lasted years.Public works vehicles all smashed up,from what? How much does the mayor and her staff make per year? Viscay was making $90k plus at a city job? The fire chief has a personal trail blazer, for what? Why does the mayor need a car? She should not even leave the city. All the police captians have cars, why? Why do we constantly see city DPW workers at work sites with private contractors? If all these things are cost saving measures then why do our taxes go up ever year? Salem is up to it's ears in nonsense.
