VIDEO: Hot Chocolate for Hope Fights Hunger
Three students are doing their part to give back at home and abroad.

Three Witch City students are working together to make a difference in Salem and across the world one cup of hot chocolate at a time.
Allan MacTaylor, Elias Papadopoulos and Marta Siemieniaka, all 6th graders, are working together on their Destination Imagination team, headed by Christine MacTaylor.
The team is selling hot chocolate at area schools and accepting donations on its Web site. The students have also collected food, which they are distributing to area pantries.
Last week, the students met with Lifebridge Executive Director Mark Cote to deliver food they had collected to be used in meals at the shelter.
Though they considered different options for their Destination Imagination project, the issue of hunger at home and abroad seemed like the right fit when the team learned that "every six seconds a child dies from malnutrition," Allan said.
"In a year, that would wipe out the population of the states Connecticut, Rhode Island, Vermont and New Hampshire."

Hot Chocolate sales at the Nathaniel Bowditch and Horace Mann Laboratory Schools in Salem have been amazing this week. So far they have raised enough support to provide over 1000 meals for people in need. Thanks so much to the families of kids from HBS and HMLS for sending your kids to school with an extra dollar for hot chocolate. Lots of credit to all of the volunteers at HMLS and NBS for making this possible. Last day of Hot Chocolate sales in Friday March 4th.

The kids are still collecting donations to try and reach their goal of 10,000 meals so they can host a packaging event to package the meals being shipped over seas. 10,000 is the minimum amount needed to host a packaging event. They have raised enough for ~4,500 meals so far and just $5 will add another 17 meals. Donations can be made at hotchocolateforhope.bbnow.org The middle school kids are also continuing to raise food for area pantries as well. This week they will be delivering to the Salvation Army and St. Joseph's. Watch for collection bins in your local grocery store.
