Firefighters fought a blaze at 63 Jefferson Ave. Monday morning.

The Salem Fire Department responded to a two-alarm fire Monday morning at 63 Jefferson Ave. — the site of Playful Paws Doggie Daycare and Allied Collision.

Scanner reports indicate pets were rescued. Multiple pets were transported from the scene. It appeared most pets made it out safely, pending confirmation from Deputy Chief Gerry Giunta. Giunta confirmed that all animals were safe Monday afternoon.

The initial call for the fire came in at 7:46 a.m.

On scene, heavy smoke was coming from the building. The Salem Fire Department Facebook page indicated four lines were run to knock down the fire in the building.

Windows on the second floor were broken and the eaves continued to smolder after the knockdown. Power was shut off to the building.

9:25 a.m. — scanner reports indicated all the hot spots in the building were out.

9:32 a.m. — FID was performing an investigation on the building.

Several communities provided mutual aid and station coverage including Peabody, Beverly, Lynn Danvers and Marblehead. Rehab 5 also responded to the scene.

10:19 a.m. — The portion of Jefferson Avenue closed during the incident was reopened.

10:22 a.m. — Scanner reportes indicated a line was still in the building. FID, the Salem and State Police were still investigating.

11:46 a.m. — The Salem Fire Department was conducting a site survey with the building inspector.

12:46 p.m. — The deputy was still on the scene.

The Salem Fire Department is still presently on scene. We'll continue to update as we receive more.

Same here! Buildings can always be replaced, lives cant, could have been worse - glad everyone including the pets are safe.

Please note we are awaiting confirmation on all the pets per the article. As you can imagine, scenes can be chaotic. SFD and the building inspector are still on scene now.

Hey "John," this is one of those examples of non-regurgitated, faster than other sources, coverage from Salem Patch.

All the info came from SFD facebook page and scanner reports. It sounds regurgitaed.I will read the whole regurgitaed story in the Salem News Tuesday as usual. I hope your little attempt at a dig made your day. I will let you know if any thing new comes across the scanner.

Like the pizza delivery guy that got attacked. Both stories on channel 5. the fire report was live. Maybe "Klassy" you should pay more attention to your disfunctional web site. The one that said Patch was going down the toilet.

This is the kind of reporting we used to get from the Salem Fish-wrap & Bird Cage Gazette years ago. Nice to see some fire & police reporting !
