Three Plow Fires in Four Days in Salem

While city road crews continue to work to clear the more than two feet of snow that was dumped on Salem during the Blizzard of 2013, Salem firefighters have been regularly responding to reported plow truck fires.

The worst of the three vehicle fires occurred at 10:32 p.m. Friday, when police and fire units fought through white-out conditions and braved 50 mph winds to extinguish a burning plow truck on Scenic Terrace in the height of the storm.

According to fire officials, the plow truck was a total loss and a second pumper had to be called to the scene when firefighters had a hard time locating and tapping a hydrant.

Not long after, local firefighters responded to another plow truck fire at Mack Park early Saturday morning. Saturday's fire caused far less damage than the incident on Scenic Terrace and was believed to have been electrical.

On Monday at 4 p.m., police and fire units were called to deal with a burning plow truck on Jefferson Avenue. City workers were reportedly able to put the fire out before a fire crew arrived on scene and the damage was minimal.
