The first scorcher of the year was no problem for the kids and staff at The Greenhouse School.

The heat was no sweat for kids Thursday at , a small pre-K to 8th grade independent school on Boston's North Shore.

"We run year-round, so we just flip to our summer script a little early," says Director Dan Welch.

In the morning, the kids just pick up their math materials and head to their "outdoor classroom," to sit under the brim of their cowboy hats or in the shade of the school's cherry tree.

"Ms. Julia loves her outdoor classroom -- I think if she could live out here, she would," says Welch of his wife and co-Director Julia Nambalirwa-Lugudde.

In the afternoon, the kids beat the heat by dipping in the school's inground pool. "It's hilarious," says Nambalirwa-Lugudde. "I told them that some schools even had to close today, and they were completely incredulous: 'Why?' they asked. They can't imagine a day without school, which is just how we like it."
