how about building a new clubhouse on the empty lot on derby st. or even better use some of the new buildings the archdiocese is putting up on lafeyette st. after all they are the ones that booted them out of the immaculate conception school building. a perfect use for the church.

What about the school buiding at St James parish on Federal st? I am not sure if that is still in use. They need a large space

There seems to be a fair amount of space available within Shetland Park. Spaces there have been converted into various uses from businesses to giant gym complexes to state agencies. It's close to the current Boys & Girls Club location also.

St. Johns school in downtown Salem is empty. And it has a gym that St James doesn't

On St. Peter Street, there is an old gym building recently used to host a concert (In May - Stu Ginsburg leases it maybe???) It's a school building....is that St. John's that Gene (above) is referring to? Not sure how much work is needed, but it can't be much worse than the sad building they are in now. The Immaculate building hasn't been touched since I attended school there in the 1970's.....and if it HAS been updated, it doesn't show!

Winter Island or Camp Naumkeg.

I think St. Johns is a Great location with a little updates It would be better and is still central for all the kids and parents....

St johns sounds like the best place. But is that also owned by the diocese? If so, how long before they're tossed out of there? It IS a perfect location though.

After having the opportunity to see a new facility like the one for Girls Inc in Lynn I wonder how Salem could find a way for a new construction. The program is so much more than structured supervised after school care or summer camp. I don't feel the community as a whole has a true picture of what happens there. Dozens of programs and numerous volunteers giving time and talent are provided all year long. The existing structure old as it is houses computer rooms, art rooms, a dance studio, a golf room, an auditorium, cooking faculties and much more. A gym in only one of the most basic spaces. A new building would need to accommodate and foster growth for all of the educational, arts and athletic programs. Not to mention the academic spaces! I hope the community is able to rally around the Boys and Girls Club and it to continue its legacy.

St John's or St. Joseph's school buildings

It would be nice to see the archdiocese step up here. I'm sure they have a team of Realtors and attorneys on staff that could make finding a new home for the club a breeze. It seems to me they could definitely improve their image by helping an organization that is truly dedicated to serving our community.

This should be built on Jefferson Avenue. First, there is plenty of available space. Second, it is nearby both the middle school and the high school. Third, this is a resonably centralized location in Salem.

I'd consider the buildings already mentioned, or the House of Seven Gables school building- which used to hold afterschool activities and preschool. It is also a great space that is under utilized and fairly central with many of the spaces that the club would need already there. Partnering with the Salem Y or using an existing school in the afternoons would also be a smart option, even if it were while planning for a new facility.

The Linsky lot on Jefferson Ave. Teens can walk to the club on their way home from school. Lots of parking for parent pickup time. On bus route for city transportation to help with drop offs.
