A day on the carousel in the Willows.
Do you remember the Salem Willows when it looked like this?

We met with historian Nelson Dionne last week, and he had tons of material to share.

It was especially fun to go through Nelson's old Salem Willows collection.

We'll be sharing the Willows collection throughout the summer, and we think you'll enjoy some of the artifacts we managed to find.

Here are three shots to get us going.

Do these photos bring back any memories for you?

The dodgems, train, ferriswheel and the whip were a big draw to the Willows in the fifties with plenty of popcorn, ice cream and candy. Thank you for all of the old photos of Salem that appear in the Patch on a weekly basis. Keep up the good work and show us many more.

The roller coaster, the tilt-a-whirl, the Dodge-em cars, clams from Cappy's when Johnny Cappuccio ran it, the wind mill on the miniature golf course, renting the row boats at the pier to go out for flounder, one could go on and on.

My Memere used to gather the family in the park space next to Camp Naumkeg on a few Sundays every summer.

I used to work at the Dodgems when Dean Avellis owned it. "RIDE'EM!" "All the way around to the right". "No head on collisions". TURN THE WHEEL!
