SFD Knocks Down Sunday Night Garage Fire

The (SFD) battled a fire that extended to multiple garages Sunday night.

No injuries were reported.

At 10:58 p.m. Sunday, SFD said they received a 911 call for a structure fire in the area of 57 Ocean Ave.

Engines 1 and 5 as well as Ladder 1 and C-4 initially responded to Ocean Avenue.

After receiving additional calls, the location was updated to 33 Hazel St., according to the fire department.

"Upon arrival, Dep. Chief Glen Beaudet reported heavy smoke showing from a two-story garage at 33 Hazel with fire extending to another garage located at the rear of 28 Linden St. He declared a 'working fire,' which added Engines 2 and 4 to the response," the fire department reported.

Once the location of the fire was determined, the crew of Engine 5 — Lt. Tim Flynn and Firefighters Ed O'Keefe and Rich LeBlanc as well as the crew of Ladder 1 — Capt. Dennis Levasseur, Lt. Pat Tobin and Firefighters Pat Burke and Paul Michaud and Engine 1's crew — Lt. Bill Bresnahan and Firefighters Manny Ataide and Aaron Bingham all converged on the scene, stretched…lines and ventilated the structures, according to SFD.

The crews from Engine 2 and 4 — Lt. Robert Cook and Firefighters Patricia Marfongelli and Kevin O'Keefe as well as Capt. Scott Austin and Firefighters Richard Thomas III and Bob Jellison assisted with the process of ventilation and overhaul.

"The fire was knocked down and under control within 20 minutes, but companies remained on scene until 1 a.m. for extensive overhaul," the fire department reported.

The cause of the blaze, which is under an investigation headed by Capt. John Payne, has not been determined.

The cities of Beverly, Peabody and Lynn provided mutual aid coverage. Atlantic Ambulance, Rehab 5 and the also responded to the scene.
