Sequestration Budget Cuts Data: Which MA Counties Have the Most Federal Employees?

Essex County has thousands of federal employees, most of whom work in treasury.

The numbers represented above show the federal employees in Massachusetts by county in 2012, according to the latest figures from Eye on Washington, a DC-based lobbying firm that tracks federal employment. It compiles the data from the Office of Personnel Management, Federal Employment Statistics and the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

While much has been made written on how the current sequestration battle in Washington could affect the national economy, these numbers are meant to give readers a sense of the sequestration at the local level.

No one knows for certain what the sequestration cuts, some $85 billion, will mean exactly. Even if the March 1 federal cuts are enacted, the full effects would not be felt immediately. The government is required to alert impacted agencies of what cuts are to be made and what workers are to be furloughed.

It should be noted, however, that even the suggestion of cuts and the notification process itself could be felt in some community economies.

Uncertainty for federal workers means they are likely to tighten their belts until they see what the cuts look like – and how long they last. It means those workers will likely spend less money at local shops and restaurants.

In some communities there may be only a handful of federal workers and the impacts may be small. But, as these figures show, in other counties federal employees numbers in the thousands and in those places the sequestration could become a more significant pain, particularly if it drags on for weeks or months.

(U.S. Postal Service Employees are excluded in this count. The USPS receives no tax dollars in its operations and would not be affected by the sequestration cuts.)

The US is in debt I wonder why? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_foreign_aid
We send millions to 25 different countries every year for their military, Economic Assistance, We are sending money to people that hate Americans, yet' we can't even afford to house our homeless or feed the children of America. Whats wrong with our Government? their priorities are not for us!

What really gets me is that we even give aid to our enemies like Iran. Humanitarian aid must stop until we solve our own issues. Most of our debt is owed to China and yes we give them aid. If these military cuts go into affect how long will it be before one of our many enemies challenges us at some level? We could end up fighting someone that is fighting back with our own weapons. If we must make cuts ,get out of Korea,Japan,Germany and the middle east.

The US sold 15 stealth fighter jets to Israel a year or two ago. Our stealth fighter jets have to much of our secret technology on board. If they think for one second that "Iran" is not got to get their hand on one, than they are all crazy and your right! Our enemies will be fighting us with our own technology and jets etc.

These cuts amount to one half of one percent of our national dept. and the democrats and the media are telling us that this is a disaster. Does this mean that the Democratic Party is not willing to cut this dept. at all?
It is increasing by 4 billion dollars a day without a budget.
Obama and the democrats refuse to pass a budget that would start to reverse this disaster they have put this country in and they are blaming republicans for the problems we face and cheerleaded by the main stream media.
This country really is filled with millions of uninformed idiots lied to by the two!
