Scuffle Outside Salem Home Depot Leads to Arrest
The following information was submitted by the Salem Police Department. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.
The following is an excerpt from the Salem Police Department's log:
Monday, Jan. 14:
- At 4:25 p.m., police responded to a domestic dispute on Laurel Street.
- At 4:29 p.m., police responded to a domestic dispute on Lafayette Street.
- At 5:28 p.m., police responded to a reported assault and battery on Aborn Street. Kevin Williams, 32, of 23R Aborn St., Salem, was arrested on two counts of assault and battery.
- At 6:51 p.m., police responded to a disturbance on Canal Street. A man who was reportedly yelling in the street was advised to "stay out of the middle of the street."
- At 7:03 p.m., a Mason Street woman called police to report that a package containing blank checks was stolen off of her front steps.
- At 7:18 p.m., police responded to a domestic dispute on Washington Street.
- At 7:43 p.m., police responded to a report of a man with a motorized wheelchair riding in the street. The man was reportedly advised to stay out of the street.
- At 10:13 p.m., police responded to a domestic dispute on Boston Street.
Tuesday, Jan. 15:
- At 12:20 a.m., police responded to a reported fire alarm on Lafayette Street. Firefighters cleared the scene after determining the fire alarm was caused by blow-back from an oil burner.
- At 1:54 a.m., police responded to a report of a dog possibly being attacked by other animals near the intersection of Hillside Avenue and Heritage Drive. Police were unable to locate anything in the area.
- At 3:18 a.m., an employee from the Dunkin' Donuts on Washington Street entered the police station with a found wallet.
- At 6:58 a.m., an Essex Street woman called police to report that someone broke into her apartment overnight and several items were missing.
- At 10:59 a.m., police responded to a report of shoplifting at the Walmart on Highland Avenue.
- At 11:25 a.m., a man known to have an outstanding warrant was located on Federal Street. Johnny W. Fantauzzi, 22, of 7 Cherry St., Salem, was arrested for having an outstanding warrant.
- At 11:29 a.m., a Summer Street woman called police to report that she suspects someone is sleeping in her shed at night.
- At 12:00 p.m., police responded to a reported fight in the parking lot of Home Depot on Traders Way. A man told police he had a heated discussion with his son. Matthew J. Conti, 31, of 27 Lexington St., Waltham, was arrested for having an outstanding warrant.
- At 1:40 p.m., Salem firefighters assisted a Perkins Street man who accidentally locked himself out of his apartment while food was cooking on the stove.
- At 3:04 p.m., a Pickering Street man called police to report that some sterling silver flatware went missing while he was away.
- At 3:04 p.m., a Northey Street resident called police to report that his car was burglarized overnight.

Jonathan S. Murphy, 24, of the streets of Salem, was arrested on charges of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon and malicious destruction of property valued above $250.
