Scene Out of 'Caddyshack' at Sovereign Bank

The following was provided by the Salem Police Department. Where charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

 

The Salem Police responded to the following calls and made the followings arrests on Tuesday  and Wednesday.

Tuesday, June 12

4:18 p.m. — Police responded to Sovereign Bank on a report an animal was inside the business. "A gopher was inside the bank and it was removed from the premises," police said.

4:45 p.m. — A dispute over a scratch ticket was reported at Lafayette and Harbor streets.

4:50 p.m. — A multiple car accident was reported at Highland Avenue and Cedar Road.

5:17 p.m. — Police said a hit and run was reported on Essex Street.

5:24 p.m. — A suspicious man cutting through a yard was reported on Malone Road. Police said a woman reported the man was covered in mud and dirt and asked for directions to Witchcraft Road.

7:10 p.m. — A Butler Street caller reported a possible drug deal.

7:37 p.m. — Possible smoke bombs in the area were reported at Lafayette and Harbor streets.

7:42 p.m. — A man told police he received a phone call from a man who told him the Gloucester Police Department is coming to get him.

8:45 p.m. — Police said a possibly intoxicated person under a tree was reported on Salem Common. The person was not intoxicated, police said.

9:41 p.m. — Larceny of cash from an apartment was reported on Foster Street.

10:10 p.m. — A caller reported an unknown person had called her cell approximately 100 times since 3 p.m. The woman said the caller sounded like a young man, but she could not identify him. The officer told the woman he would call the number and tell the person that a police report has been filed and to stop calling.

Wednesday, June 13

12:25 a.m. — A fight was reported on Harbor Street.

3:49 a.m. — An undesirable was reported on Salem Street.

8:10 a.m. — A shovel in the road was reported on Swampscott Road. Police said it was moved.

9:14 a.m. — Two loose dogs were reported on Ocean Avenue.

9:55 a.m. — Police received a call a Howard Street bathroom was toilet papered.

10:54 a.m. — A stolen children's rocking chair was reported at Cedar Hill Road and Intervale Road.

11:04 a.m. — Dogs going after a mailman was reported on Ocean Avenue.

12:54 p.m. — A man on Canal Street told police that while he was incarcerated, his credit card accumulated close to $10,000 in charges. The man has been doing some of his own work investigating, but police said it would be turned over to the criminal investigation unit.

2:35 p.m. — A person tampering with mail was reported on Lafayette Street.

Wednesday Arrest

Robert James LaMothe, 23, of 116 Park St. in Lynn, was arrested on charges of operating after a license suspension and speeding.
