Salem's 'Stairwell Entity' Could Have Big Screen Debut

Thomas Stirling's photo has made it to the next round of Canon's Project Imaginat10n.

Salemite Thomas Stirling still has a chance to see his photograph inspire a celebrity director's film.

You voted, and on Oct. 15, it was announced Stirling's photo, "Stairwell Entity" was one of 10 winners in "The Unknown" theme in Canon's Project Imaginat10n contest. Last month, Stirling said the movie Poltergeist and Salem were both inspirations for the spooky shot.

If his photo is selected, Eva Longoria, Jamie Foxx, Biz Stone, Georgina Chapman or James Murphy could direct a film inspired by the image under the mentorship of Ron Howard.

In total, Stirling said there were 10 categories. Ron Howard has already picked the winner of the category called "Discovery" and celebrity directors will pick a photo from each of the remaining nine themes, according to Stirling.

So, Stirling is essentially up against nine photos in "The Unknown" theme. Though an announcement date hasn't yet been set, Stirling said he has already won $500 for the Canon online store and two tickets to the movie premiere, which should be next summer in New York City.

We'll keep you up-to-date on the status of Stirling's entry.

Congratulations, Thomas!
